Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
What is the SSP?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a five-hour therapeutic listening intervention that uses music to help people regulate their emotions and sense of safety. It's based on research by Dr. Stephen Porges and his Polyvagal Theory, which studies the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and social-emotional processes. The SSP is designed to stimulate the vagus nerve, which can calm the nervous system.
Who can benefit from the SSP?
People of all ages can benefit from the SSP. The SSP can be used as a stand-alone intervention or in conjunction with other therapies like an Occupational Therapist.
When and where do I listen?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) can be delivered in-person or remotely. The SSP can be completed in a few minute to 60-minute sessions based on each clients needs and sensitivities.
